Growing chrysanthemum seedling with the support of Japanese members
At OISCA Alumni Association Training Center, West Java, Indonesia

In December 1994, OISCA Alumni Association Training Center commenced a project of raising chrysanthemum seedlings, aiming at financially supporting the trainee graduates' self reliant activities. Thereafter the project continued to grow with solid achievements year after year. In 2006, 5.5 million seedlings were produced and shipped to Japan a year.

This project is supported by Mr. Shundo Yamamoto (a member of OISCA Japan) who is the chrysanthemum grower in Aichi. Six staff members currently working on the project in Indonesia were given special training by Mr. Yamamoto. Thanks to the training, they oversee the production with confidence to meet Japan 's strict quality standard of the products. Since chrysanthemum farming is labor intensive in raising seedlings as well as their shipment, about fifty people, mostly housewives, near the Training Center are employed at all times, contributing to the creation of employment in the area where income generation is generally not so easy. It is expected that as this project continue to expand, that will provide greater amount of fund to support former trainees in their initiating any kinds of useful projects for their own communities.
