OISCA Thailand opened Training Center at Surin,Thailand on June 6, 2008

OISCA Thailand opened Training Center at Surin , Thailand on June 6, 2008. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Mr. Fumio Kitsuki, Deputy Secretary General of OISCA International, together with the former Governor of Surin Province. Distinguished guests and authority also attended.

The area of the center is 157 square meters. The permission to use the land for construction of the center has been given by one of the committee members of OISCA Thailand, Miss Suwannee Sirisetpukdee. The time for construction was about 6 months, starting from December 2007 to May 2008.

The center will be the place to train youth, organize Children's Forest Program ( CFP ) activities and other OISCA projects. It will also be opened for public to learn about environment, nature, negative impact made by human on nature and how human can live in harmony with nature.

Recently in middle of June 2008, OISCA Thailand organized a gathering of local NGOs in Surin at the new training center to talk and give views on what we can do for Surin on the topics of youth, environment and community development. This is a good sign of NGOs of same objectives to join hands and work on the same directions.

Surin Province is about 450 kms from Bangkok , in the northeastern part of Thailand .
OISCA Thailand started in Surin over 33 years ago. The condition of soil in Surin is arid and the weather is dry. OISCA started the project in Surin by training youth to grow crops and conserve environment through planting trees. Experts were also sent from Japan to give counseling on agriculture to the villagers.

Now in 2008, there are several community forests in Surin, we can say, this is most partly through OISCA projects. For 20 years every year, from 1982 to 2002, group of Japanese volunteers from Kanagawa came to Surin to plant trees under Friendship Planting Tree Project. Because of close relationship of Surin and Kanagawa, 2 elephants were presented to the people of Japan from the people of Surin in 2002.

Through OISCA projects, local people and youth become more conscious of conserving good environment, adopt their lifestyles to live in harmony with the nature. CFP in schools makes children realize the importance of trees and forests. Children under CFP are proud to be a part of playing an important role in conserving healthy natural environment. This training center is the first permanent training center in Surin of OISCA Thailand.

Another center is in Lampoon, northern part of Thailand , where training on agriculture, environment is organized for youth. OISCA also carr ies out projects in Ayutthaya ,
Chainat, Khonkaen and Ranong.

Climate change and environment problem is no longer your problem or our problem. It is the problem of all of us who live on this earth to join hands and help solve.
