What is Children's Forest Program (CFP)

The Children's Forest Program(CFP) is an activity that promotes tree planting at schools in developing countries. This program was announced in 1991 by the president of OISCA at the celebration of OISCA-International's 30th anniversary. CFP was immediately launched and promoted on a massive scale.

Many schools and communities have welcomed CFP. As of 2005, 2,969schools from 25 countries & territory are participating in the program. The tree planting activities are organized by schools with OISCA-International volunteers. CFP encourages participation of children, teachers, parents and other members of the community.

Although the scale of the program at each school is relatively small, these are sure and steady efforts towards the preservation and conservation of sustainable nature. Children plant trees and each school helps to see the program through. The planted trees are protected by the people and are unlikely to be cut because of the awareness developed in the participatory process of creating the forests.

How OISCA-International contributes to CFP

  • Providing seedlings and other tree planting materials.
  • Organizing coordinators who support the implementation of CFP.
  • Offering environmental education to the children.

Donors

Many Japanese individuals as well as overseas personnels are supporting the program as main donors. Other major groups of supporters are Japanese well wishers too. Over the past few years corporate labor unions and federations of labor unions have contributed to CFP. They donated funds to support several schools, and their members participated in tree planting activities in various countries. Many Chapters and Branches of OISCA-International also make contributions supporting CFP.

How you can help?

Organizations, corporations and individuals can help support the Children's Forest Program by making donations. Your support would be highly appreciated. One share of CFP support is 5,000 yen or 50 US dollars (or the equivalent in any other currencies). Supporters receive periodic CFP reports and greetings from a child of a participating school.
