Ajuy Region Water Catchment Area Reforestation Project

This Project is managed by Ajuy Water District & OISCA Bago Training Center, Negros Occidental. Staff members from the Center tend to previously planted trees on the neighboring island, Ilo-ilo. They are also responsible for managing volunteers, workers, and funding.

For many decades this area had suffered from drought caused by lack of trees in the mountains. During dry season people had much difficulty even in securing drinking water. With the cooperation of Ajuy Municipality, OISCA launched tree planting project in water catchment area in 1993.

During the fiscal year 2004, the Reforestation Project planted various kinds of trees on about 250 hectares of upland, and is surely increasing its area with planted trees. Now, the Project looks after the total of about 757 hectares of forests that they created since the inception of this Project. Japanese volunteers visit and join the Project almost in every summer. People say that the water flow increased obviously these years.
