OISCA Eco-Tech Training Center, Rabaul

OISCA Eco-Tech Training Center, Rabaul owns 5.4 hectares of rice fields, 1.5 hectares of crops, and 3.1 hectares of fruit trees. Most of the land is occupied by cacao plantation. At the Center, the trainees learn organic farming methods and animal husbandry.

The crops and animals at the Center include rice, vegetables, chickens, pigs, hares, ducks, fish, crocodiles, butterflies, fruit trees, cacao and so on.

The trainees learn the farming method in which all sectors of the farm are interconnected through recycling organic materials that are produced on the farm. Some of the trainees engage in well-digging, using techniques transferred from experts from the Philippines. The Center concluded a tripartite agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL), and the Central Government of PNG, to carry out the training program for young farmers in rice cultivation and monitoring. Two buildings were constructed to provide dormitories for trainees, classrooms and rice milling room.
